“During that time, Customs and Border Protection [CBP] has logged more than 7.4 million migrant encounters,” said Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) in a floor speech on Tuesday, a falsehood oft-repeated in Congress about the U.S. Mexico border.
Capitol Press asked Jenn Budd, an ex-border agent and expert on the border patrol, what Cornyn means by encounters. “Migrant encounters include people who are turned away and people who pass inspections,” said Budd.
