The story broke in The New Republic last week that the Smithsonian Institution is cracking down on drag shows after Secretary Lonnie Bunch told the House Administration Committee on December 12 that he would look in to the popular events that have been well-attended for years.

Secretary Bunch is currently traveling in Ireland and is unavailable for comment, per a Smithsonian regent who declined to be named for this newsletter. After getting ghosted by Smithsonian’s chief spokesperson, we asked 28 senators to weigh in on drag shows at the institution’s facilities. We include their responses below verbatim for subscribers.
